Welcome to Photography by Derek Ralston.

Congratulations Sean & Kim!

A better coffee mousetrap.

If you like coffee as much as I do, you probably already know about Keurig coffee makers. While the coffee that they make is outstanding, it can get a bit expensive buying pods, and it is sometimes difficult to find a good selection of them. Enter a guy with a great idea. Check out this site for a way to cut down on the expense, while maintaining the great taste that the Keurig brewer is famous for: Reuse your Keurig K-Cups! So you ask what this has to do with my photography? Without my morning coffee, I wouldn’t make it to the studio bright and early!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you to all of my current and future clients! I have so much to be thankful for, and I hope that everyone remembers how much we are all blessed.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

A wedding by the river.

The weather was great and the bride, as always, was beautiful.

Check out my latest book

Last month, I had the pleasure of being commissioned to photograph the 18th annual presentation of Keeping Dance Alive! at Laxson Auditorium. This coffee table gallery book highlights the artists who brought their talent to the stage in Chico.

Studio Update

We passed our final inspection on the new studio today! Just a few finishing touches to go before we open the doors, later this month. Stay tuned for our grand opening announcement!

Studio News

Construction on our new studio location is going well, but it seems like everything is moving very slowly! I am still keeping my fingers crossed to be offering some great new looks by next month. I’m excited about this new shooting space and a much more comfortable client space too.

Meet Shantel

We had a great shoot on one of our few sunny days this past month.

Coming Soon – New Studio Retail Location!

I am pleased to announce that I have secured a new studio location in beautiful Mission Square, one of the most vital retail locations in Oroville! I am shooting for a grand opening in late March. Stay tuned!

Shape up for spring portraits!

With winter in full swing, I know that it’s hard to think about spring, but it will be here before you know it. Spring is a great time to get that family portrait updated and right now is the time to start thinking about it. Don’t let those New Year’s resolutions slip by the wayside. Keep in shape or start working now to get in shape so you will look fantastic in your new family portrait.

Great shoot, Stephanie & Dylan!

We had a great time on an engagement shoot with Stephanie & Dylan on the grounds of the Bidwell Mansion. I’m excited about capturing their wedding memories this summer!

Have a safe and joyous New Year!

It looks like the very cold weather is behind us (for now) and there are some winter blue skies ahead. I hope that you had a wonderful Holiday season, and here is my wish that your new year is wonderful for you, and your families.

Here we go!

It has been an interesting journey getting the new site up and running. This spot will begin showcasing some of my work, in the near future.

Check back often. You might even see yourself here.
